Car Riding With The King

Interview Balimurphy

Interview published in BSC News Magazine March .

April 2009. On a beautiful sunny day, I walk in the crowded alleys of the Printemps de Bourges, a music festival which takes place every year at this time. The opportunity for young talent to come forward through extensive programming in bars and several open stages scattered throughout the city.

That day, I lingered a few moments before a group of musicians with infectious enthusiasm, which has literally captured the scene in front of a captivated audience. Unable to divert my attention, I go with the poetry of their lyrics and the power of their bewitching melodies Folcker-rock, driven - among others - the melancholy mood of a violin and an accordion. This meets an immediate blow of heart!

When it's time for them to cede the stage to the following artists, there is no way for me to let them go like that. I want more! So I rush to buy a few copies of their CD they had brought with them from Belgium, and exchange a few words with them. Then I learn that Balimurphy - that is how the group is called, is not his first album and has already proven itself on the Belgian scene. And for proof: The group celebrates its tenth birthday, no less! He can, however, that in France this year ... What's wrong! I appeal

the singer: "Your music is great! But how is it that we do not know you in France! "

" It happens! "He replied with the same enthusiasm that I discovered him a few moments earlier on stage. I wish them all the success they deserve before leaving with the crowd that lined up behind me, my precious CD in the hands ...

A year has passed, and their songs always take loop in my MP3.

Balimurphy, they are the flavor texts bittersweet, delicious mixture of sadness, melancholy, lucidity, but also with humor, joy and optimism tinged with bitterness. Tunes that remain in the head, which one never tires. They are fantastic musicians who live their music with a passion that mesmerizes you. It is also a haunting voice, that of Cedric, who lived sweats, sensitivity.

Through topics such as progress, the diktat of the appearance, rupture, the maturity ... they are getting criticism poetry of everyday life.

After returning applaud at a concert in Paris last October, I promised to give this group sympathetic to the undeniable talent and boundless energy, future key figure in the French scene. It is in all cases all the harm I wish them.

Dust Their album, released on March 8 in France, is good. It relaxes, restores hope, dream and relieves the pain of the soul. Do not deprive yourself, addiction guaranteed!

INTERVIEW

BaliMurphy bonjou r! You are about to conquer France with your haunting folk-rock melodies, after seducing Belgium, where you have become indispensable! In what state of mind do you approach the stage musical e French?
We approach it all very positive! Not particularly because it is France, but mainly because we can travel together by and for music. We attach great importance to encounters and exchanges. It seems important to feed all these experiences to grow musically and humanly. It is often said that it is important to "living things" and what is more exciting than the trip to be accomplished?

Your album
Dust out next March 8. This is your first encounter with the French public. It does not, however, your first album ... Tell us about your background.

A course of ten years is not easy to summarize: many forms, with a clearer structure for 5 years, musical events, self-produced albums ("The Suitcase," "The man down the tram" ) with the means at hand to the first professional production for the album "Dust". We operate at our own pace, with challenges other than pure music: videos, backgrounds etc.. and a special attraction for the stage, which is our favorite place.

Why "BaliMurphy?

When we started making music together, first as it was for fun, because it seemed important to get together and try to create something. Then comes a first concert and the name issue arises. We agreed on BaliMurphy that refers to a neighborhood in Belfast that one of our former members came to visit which had particularly strong.

What are your influences musical? I dare say Standing on zinc , whose sounds and rhythms are quite similar to yours, I'm wrong?

The question of influences is quite large ... Of course we are French chanson foremost, so obviously we have some links with the whole family as the current Standing on the Zinc, Heads Stiff, Ogres de Barback and Rue Ketanou. We obviously can not miss the great names in music like Brel, Brassens or Gainsbourg inevitably hovering over us and inspire us by their journey, their texts and personality. But what is magic in music is that you can learn from everything! It must be curious, constantly ... Every music style has its strengths and we can both learn a pop rock song, the text of a rapper than a guitar riff from a group of Madagascar. We are six musicians, six individuals with tastes and sensitivities and we spend many evenings to help us discover what touches us.

" Everyone pulls a fake world," "She is more beautiful without me," "My confidence in the future comes down a bit nil ... If your text, blending sadness, insight, humor and optimism, they always reveal a sensitivity all on edge. You identify yourself through your lyrics? Where do you get your inspiration?

We do not choose the topics we will discuss, they are binding on us naturally. We talk about what's in our thoughts and our thoughts every day. Then of course, talking freely about death and the absurdity of life seems essential. Especially as we find that these are topics that are too often disregarded.

Not sure I feel great! The train, walking? Mail or Internet? You leave, you stay? The drug, rugby? (Note: I hesitate even from the album Dust ) Have you found some answers from?!

We live in a world of false abundance of potential frustration, and this sentiment is increasing day by day. The questions are piling up, and away the answers and certainties. This reluctance is also a life position that prevents stagnation and accepts the complexity of life. With what anguish this causes as inevitable. Long live the questions and answers ... attention to

In the song Coco Mademoiselle [Ed "It's not me you look at sleeping with who you want to wake you / I'm not your bet on future, just a moment forsaken / You say where, when you say, you say, and then released back ... "] , one of you he had a score to settle?!
course ! But as in those conversations that we rehash later when we have not found the words at the moment, we are given good replicas, the right role. Our songs are inspired by our lives, but the reverse process also exists: the songs are played, everyone hears what he wants. They are beyond our control.
You come with great conviction the theme of progress and you feel rather reluctant about it! "You can not stop progress" , "Everybody buys a fake world," "Everybody lives, or rather floats " ... Do you think progress is beyond us and immerses us in a world increasingly artificial? He leads us in some way to our own demise?
This extends the question of hesitation. Should we go back or forge ahead? Neither one nor the other course, but need not be a philosopher or sociologist to understand that blind ideologies of progress, growth, have become true religions. The long-term thinking is gone. We just try to make our interpretation this huge problem. As for the artificial, not need either to be a genius: the man and the world that created it are almost getting a divorce!
What issues would you discuss in your future compositions? And is it that you shall not?
Certainly not, but it avoids the issues "boat" or too anecdotal. The poetic process is open, still required. This is an open world, a universe. But how to avoid the recurring topic of interest in life and purpose of the death? or the splintering of human relationships?
What are your plans now?

We have always had and we will always have projects. It is very important for us to have a continual goal in sight. Today, of course, we are preparing for the few rounds we will do in France and Switzerland, but besides that, we're already working on the next album and we are trying, with the team that surrounds us to see what could be done in other countries such as Canada and Eastern Europe are

An anecdote to share with our readers?
Happiness full followed by a cold shower the worst we've ever had ... few years ago, we held our first tour. We broke our piggy bank, purchased our first van, and we left two weeks in France. These were moments that remain etched in our memories. We played well when they wanted us, the places, campgrounds, clubs, etc.. It was fine, it was hot, we stayed in a house a few hundred meters of the ocean ... Our first vacation with music!. Then we went home, head full of memories. A few days later, after a series of thunderstorms and torrential rain, we found ourselves in our rehearsal space to work a bit ... four feet of water, a floating guitar, amps filled with mud. We spent the next three days to carefully disassemble our equipment, all pass under a stream of clear water to clean, then dry everything, piece by piece, hair dryer. Fortunately, we were able to recover much for the rest, we got fun, we borrowed some money and we bought the material that made us want! We had gone into debt for 5 years to come but we had to do it, it was unthinkable for us to lose everything like that!
What question would you have liked me to ask you?
Get Up?
What do you have me say?

Nickel!

That's it! Thank

Balimurphy!

Manuale Fingerprint In Lifebook

Poem, 'A heart adrift'

a heart adrift

Do not cry, do not bend under the weight of disappointment
Silencing the heart that beats too hard, give voice to Because
Do not focus on words, let escape the smiles
Do not feed the slightest hope, no longer dreaming of a future

love our complicity, without giving too much importance
Do not say that the focus, ignore the obvious
Do not know what we want, but be so good together
Loving the happiness we have given ourselves, but we refuse it collects

Taming loneliness, feeling empty but secretly
Have the look strong, so keep the tears would flow
Forget the words that condemn those who want to believe gave
When we gnawing melancholy, learn to lose the memory

forget the smell a perfume that made her shiver body
Discard regret, remorse close to our heart
Stay important one for the other but without taking up too much space
Loving but not belong to himself, until one of us disappears

Smile at the time we disarm, not to show that we badly
Laugh good heart even if, in fact, our happiness is on the run
abandon our illusions, no longer wanting to freeze time
Remember, whatever happens after the winter comes spring

Close your eyes and forget the lack of an essential presence
Who knows so well reassure us that made our wings push
Forget all our similarities, and values that we share
dip my pen in my tears, writing for not sinking

Never stop dreaming, make our lives a rainbow sky
the middle of black and gray colors make the best
For happiness does not leave when their loved ones leave us
It simply move, hoping to be forgiven.
